Joni is the Cofounder and CTO of QuickCarl, connecting home owners to home service professionals for real-time assistance through virtual service calls from any mobile device. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and spent 22 years in a variety of combat arms and combat service support positions before transitioning to the commercial tech space. He served as a communications officer specializing in designing and operating large-scale tactical networks before joining the U.S. Naval Academy as a military professor in the Dept of Computer Science. While at the Naval Academy he developed the school's mobile software engineering curriculum. He also created the web-based application currently used by the Marine Corps to select Academy graduates for Marine officer commissioning. In his post-military career, Joni was a lead software engineer at Capital One, leading teams of mobile engineers in the development of Capital One's flagship apps used by over 22 million people. Joni is an avid member of the developer community, and organizes the DC Android, DC Flutter and DC Kotlin Meetups. He holds a BS in Biology from the University of South Carolina and an MS in CS from the Naval Postgraduate School. He's lived all over the world, but these days you can find him in Oakton, VA, with his wife and kids, their dog Rosie, and their cats Cheddar and Alan Purring.
