Amelia Friedman

Serial entrepreneur
Amelia is a serial entrepreneur. Her most recent startup, Hatch Apps, developed a service-enabled platform with a mission to bring transparency, speed and price stability to the software development industry. Hatch Apps is funded by Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, Morgan Stanley, Jane VC, and the Y Combinator Fellowship. In the last year, Hatch Apps was selected as DC’s Startup of the Year, and listed alongside Amazon, SpaceX, and Robinhood in Entrepreneur magazine as a “brilliant company” that has caught investors’ attention. The company was initially funded by the sale of a satirical card game: Amelia and her cofounder ideated “The 2016 Election Game” over a weekend during the 2016 presidential primaries, and the next week had done $50,000 in sales.

Prior to Hatch, Amelia founded the Student Language Exchange, an education nonprofit she grew to operate in 7 cities and for which she was awarded a Halcyon Fellowship.

An advocate for women in tech, Amelia launched the Vinetta Project in DC. The organization now grants an annual cash prize to a local female founder, engages with 150+ founders and 100+ investors annually, and has helped DC-area female-founded companies raise over $35 million in seed-stage funding. Amelia also writes regularly for outlets including the Harvard Business Review, the Atlantic and Fast Company, and has been selected for Forbes 30 Under 30, as a Washingtonian Tech Titan, and as a Power Woman of DC Tech.

Amelia graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University in 2014.
